Miles More Mendip is a walk book with a difference. It’s sponsored by Butcombe Brewery and written in collaboration with Les Davies, West Countryman and former Warden on the Mendip Hills. This book it is not just about the miles covered and the views experienced, it is also about unlocking the landscape and discovering what lies beneath. It is a story which should open your eyes to what you see.
Miles More Mendip has ten moderate circular walks within the Mendip Hills in North Somerset.
The circular walks range from 3-7.5 miles and take in a Napoleonic fort, an ancient castle, Iron Age hill fort, the last lead smelting chimney on Mendip, an old canal, a huge railway viaduct, and Jack and Jill Hill of nursery rhyme fame. It explores fields, tracks and quiet lanes and many of the walks have amazing views.
Sue Gearing is well known for her regular column in West Country life, the Saturday magazine of the Western Daily Press, and in Mendip Times monthly magazine. Les also has a regular column in Mendip Times.
The book is spiral bound, in full colour and imaginatively designed by Vikki Ellis whose work features in the Western Daily Press.
