In his February column Les remembers the flooding in Somerset this time last year. He praises the Royal Bath and West of England Society for their work in raising the levels of awareness and raising money to help with flood relief.
Les talks generally about the sort of weather we can usually expect in February and describes the reaction of Sarah Manning, the first headmistress of Charterhouse school, to the harsh winter conditions on Mendip.
We are also treated to a vivid description of the hard physical work involved years ago in clearing out sheds that had housed cattle over the winter – definitely the sort of work that would burn off those excess pounds many of us put on over the winter months!
